South Africa’s Greater Kruger region is legendary. Vast and wild, this pristine part of the country is renowned for its thriving biodiversity and populations of free-roaming wild animals. This includes the iconic African Big 5.
The Mtomeni Trail is a 3-night walking safari experience that will give you a taste of this magnificent wilderness. The trail is based at the tented Mtomeni Safari Camp in the Letaba Ranch, a protected park unfenced from the Kruger.
The focus of the Mtomeni Trail is quiet, unobtrusive walking that gives you a chance to immerse yourself completely in nature. You therefore walk silently, in single file, led by a guide and backed up by a ranger. There are frequent stops for discussion and information, and the pace is set at an enjoyable level for everyone.
While game sightings of the large mammals are possible, your focus will be on tracks and signs, bush survival skills, and bird identification. The guide will plan suitable configurations for the weather, game movements and guest fitness.
Guests return to the welcoming Mtomeni Camp at the end of each day. The camp is set in the shade of jackalberry trees, with tents raised on wooden decks and featuring en-suite bathrooms, linen, bedding and towels. The guide will prepare delicious meals, which are served and enjoyed with fellow guests around the lapa fire, under the stars.
