Gondwana Game Reserve is found in South Africa's Western Cape. It is a spectacular 11000 hectare property, hosting splendid tracts of pristine and endemic Fynbos. It is a sanctuary for rare and unusual creatures, such as the locally endemic Cape Sugarbird which helps to pollinate the various Protea species, and the endangered Black Rhino. Lion and elephants are often encountered whilst out on game drive and the terrain is fairly open. The reserve characteristically consists of steep Fynbos-clad valleys interspersed with open grassland patches. As the reserve is still in a recovery phase from previous farming land use, black wattle trees are prevalent in various areas on the property. However these invasive trees are slowly being removed and used as fire wood in the lodges. There is a separately fenced off section of the reserve which has been set aside for non-dangerous plains game, endangered game species such as the Cape Mountain Zebra, a small herd of Buffalo and local Nguni Cattle.
