Arguably Uganda's most notable national park, the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is home to one of the most fascinating creatures on the planet, the endangered Mountain Gorilla. The park has well-established lodges, camps and eco-tourism operators and the thickly forested mountain slopes are traversed by guided safari groups strongly regulated by a certain number of permits per day. The aim is to get up close and personal on foot to semi-habituated family groups of Mountain Gorillas. The trekking is hard but incredibly rewarding as one comes face to face with these apex primates. The park hosts an incredible diversity of both fauna and flora and as it is accessed only on foot, it is relatively untouched. The lower lying regions of the park are also home to a chimpanzee population which are equally as interesting. In addition there are several other primate species making this area one of the best places on the planet for viewing the great apes and their smaller counterparts.

Why we like it

Protected and habituated Mountain Gorillas; Pristine Central African jungle; Prolific primate species
