The Bazaruto Archipelago is a group of islands located off the mainland of Mozambique. This tranquil, tropical paradise is the perfect destination for a coastal safari experience. The archipelago consists of four main islands featuring white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters. The coral reefs, sand dunes, and forests of the islands are rich in marine and terrestrial wildlife species. The rare and endangered dugong is found in this region, as well as populations of dolphins, whales and turtles. The island waters teem with hundreds of species of fish, and the birdlife is superb, with more than 160 species recorded. Luxury beach resorts offer the chance for a relaxing island holiday, and exciting activities such as scuba diving and snorkelling can be enjoyed in the archipelago. The islands were declared a national park in 1971; as such, the pristine habitats of the wildlife species and protected and conserved.
