Aquila Private Game Reserve located near Cape Town, only a two-hour drive away, and is named after the Black Eagle that thrives in the area. Aquila is a malaria-free, 4, 500 hectare reserve steeped in Khoi San and Boer War history and boasts 3 pristine biomes of vegetation set among the magnificent Karoo mountains, valleys, rivers and kloofs. Aquila Game Reserve is the closest major private game reserve to Cape Town and is located next to Touws Rivier town, in a valley between the Langeberg and the Outeniqua Mountains. Aquila is the proud finalist of an Imvelo Award for their Social Involvement Programme and provides over 300 jobs to the previously disadvantaged community of Touws River. Aquila has undertaken a notable campaign to re-introduce wildlife to this part of the Western Cape. Due to the fact that certain animal species are kept in separate enclosures on the property, you have an almost guaranteed chance of viewing all the Big 5.
