On the banks of the Letaba River, inside the provincial reserve of Letaba Ranch, lies a jewel called Mtomeni Safari Camp. Mtomeni Camp forms part of the African Ivory Route and is situated in a Big Five Reserve, 42km from Phalaborwa. This is a game-rich area, as the fences have been dropped between Kruger and Letaba Ranch, which is well-known for its large herds of elephant and buffalo. The reserve is also a hot-spot for African wild dog sightings. Mtomeni Camp has 12 safari tents on wooden decks, and is beautifully laid out, giving you an eye-level view of the river and surrounding bush. There is a simple en-suite bathroom with a flush toilet, basin and bucket shower. Linen, bedding and towels are provided, and the kitchen, dining and campfire facilities are communal. You will share a gas hob and campfire for cooking, as well as a fridge and freezer for storage of food. There is no electricity, and paraffin lights are provided for light at night. A morning or afternoon game drive is included in your rate.
