Rwanda is know as the “Land of a Thousand Hills”. The landlocked country is situated just below the equator and despite being a small country steeped in a traumatic past, Rwanda is a shining light for what Africa can become. It is rich in natural wonders with its many lakes, mountains, forests and pockets savannah woodland. The idyllic Lake Kivu is one of the 20 deepest lakes in the world. Rwanda sits at a high altitude and the steep slopes and volcanic soils showcase an abundance of productive agricultural activities. The country’s three national parks are designated conservation areas and are home to a wide range of mammal and bird species (including 26 Albertine Rift endemics). The flagship Volcanoes National Park contains an estimated one-third of the world’s endangered mountain gorilla population and visitors can see habituated mountain gorilla families here, Chimpanzees in Nyungwe Forest and the traditional African big game in Akagera make Rwanda a one stop safari destination.
