These are some of the best game reserves, national parks and safari destinations to see zebra in Africa
Instantly recognisable by their black-and-white striped coats, zebras are one of the classic game species of Africa. Each individual zebra has a unique coat pattern, much like a fingerprint. They are social animals and can be seen grazing on the plains in herds. They are often the target for predatory species such as lions and hyenas, and will group together in their herd in order to drive these predators off. The Safari Index team recommends the following game reserves, national parks and safari areas in Africa for those looking to spot these unique creatures on safari.
The Serengeti in Tanzania is one of the world’s most famous safari hotspots. The Great Migration, in which huge numbers of wildebeest and zebra migrate across the plains, followed by predators such as lions and leopards, occurs in this region. The area is one of the best places in Africa to see zebra, even during the times of the year when the migration does not occur.
The Mara plains in Kenya are world-renowned for their superb wildlife numbers and for the spectacle of the Great Migration, when herds of zebra, gazelle and wildebeest migrate across them. Predators such as lions and cheetah follow them, and are abundant in the area. Although the Migration is a spectacular phenomenon, the game viewing in the Mara remains excellent throughout the entire year.
